Your Role

As the Head of Design you will be leading a team of UX & Content Designers at different levels, that are integrated into our product, commercial & marketing teams, and support them in maximising their individual potential and drive an outstanding quality of work across the areas they are supporting.

You will be extremely passionate about customer centric design, creative, self-driven, critical thinker and a true owner of the design function at Ocean Finance.

You will be a strong team player that leverages their wide knowledge of the principles, theories and tools required for establishing and executing a UX Design strategy to cover our creative direction, brand development, content design, visual design and customer engagement.

Leveraging your deep understanding of our customers and business strategic goals, in a close collaboration with the Head of Research, you will establish and drive a strong UX strategy that will enable your team and the rest of the business to deliver outstanding products for our customers and maximise the business value.

You will be reporting to the Director of Product

Your responsibilities

  • Create a design strategy, culture and plan that aligns with the goals of the business and the wider brand

  • Have the vision and ambition to develop and lead a design team creatively and commercially using a customer centric and design led thinking, so it can be applied across the business

  • Be a team player and work collaboratively and effectively with product managers, developers, analysts and other stakeholders to understand the customer and business objectives

  • Establish, develop and foster best practice across the design teams

  • Develop and manage productivity and continuously improve the design team’s performance

  • Leveraging your great communication skills, to articulate complex strategy, vision, concepts and progress in a digestible manner, to all levels of stakeholders

  • Ensure that projects and tasks are delivered to the highest standard, in a timely manner and according to budget

  • Have an inspirational ability to drive creative solutions and an impeccable attention to detail

  • Stay up to date with latest design and digital tools and trends

  • Be customer centric and be UX focussed at all times

  • Collaborate regularly with our marketing and commercial teams, to align the strategy and to maximise the opportunity of your product

  • Work to define and understand your KPIs and define your team’s OKRs, to align with the company’s direction

  • Take an active part in coaching and mentoring talent within the business

  • Operate within a highly-regulated industry, work with the different legal, risk and compliance functions to maintaining our high compliance standards

Job requirements

Your skills, competencies and experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience leading a design team

  • Proven track record in creating excellent UX and design work from concept to production

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple streams of work at any given time

  • Ability to storyboard and translate ideas to designers and others, influencing internal stakeholders

  • Attention to detail and can communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • A strong working knowledge of the creative process

  • Proficient in modern web design practises including, wire-framing, responsive design & prototyping

  • Proficient across the Adobe Creative Suite (AI / PS / ID / XD), Sketch and Figma

  • Partners across teams at every stage to deliver the highest level of quality

  • Strong experience in setting UX metrics to measure the success of new designs

  • Experience working in an Agile and product driven environment

  • Tracked record of leading a design team, with a clear definition and understanding of the success metrics, OKRs and ROIs

  • Ability to be self-driven, curious and feel comfortable in a fast paced and growing business with a constantly evolving working environment

  • Commercially aware, with a good understanding of the impact that digital experiences, partnership management or marketing have on customers and their business outcomes

  • You are comfortable working (partly or fully) remote
